I'm happy to write to the author on this, but just wanted to see if someone has a solution to this before I bother him.Sharing 4 comfy looks I’ve had on rotation lately, from a few of my favorite ethical companies. Unfortunately in that use case I can't find a way where only deleted files are automatically purged from the backup. ![]() I just don't want to keep photos that back up and then my wife or I decide after two days it's a terrible photo and we delete it. I don't use the retention setting as there is little value in turning that on when I want to retain all files (except deleted ones) indefinitely (with APFS there is no real addition cost of keeping every daily, hourly, weekly backup due to de-duplication). I want to keep my backup files indefinitely (who knows - maybe I want a photo 20 years from now that I've got backed up and I need to resort to the backup because of a hard drive failure). Is there a retention only setting that removes deleted files after whatever predetermined time that I decide to set? Hi - I am aware of retention, however, it appears that it applies to the entire backup. Since 9 March, all the logs reports that the directory is empty. ![]() Here's a snip of the log from 9 March:- 0 03:05:21 GMT /Volumes/iMacStorage/Academics: 0 files found.Ġ 03:05:23 GMT /Volumes/iMacStorage/Academics: Created a new backup record.Ġ 03:05:23 GMT /Volumes/iMacStorage/Academics (1 exclusion): 0, 0 files backed up Not creating a new backup record.Ġ 03:19:07 GMT /Volumes/iMacStorage/Academics (1 exclusion): 10.137 GB, 110 files backed up Here is a snip of my log from 8 March:- 0 03:19:07 GMT /Volumes/iMacStorage/Academics: No changes to plan or files since last complete backup record. Not only is it refusing to upload new content.but it is actually reporting that the entire directory has been deleted (it hasn't). However, since 8 March - it has been marking various folders as deleted. I have not changed my Arq settings in months. I have the logs emailed to me daily - no errors reported. I backup various files on external drives to Google Drive - daily at 3am. So these are all (as best I can tell) Apple controlled directories and the change was after I was working in Settings, so I must have changed a security level settings. Some of the ones in ~/Library are (or are in) Containers or in app folders in Application Support, like Notes (in Application Support). While this is a long list of directories, the ones in my home directory are:ĭownloads Desktop Documents Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary While some don't need backup like directories that contain iCloud data (Notes, Photos, and so on), I'd like to get this fixed. I'm thinking I must have changed a security setting or something. Most the files are in /Users/myname/Library, but some are in other Apple specific directories and I get the same error (Failed to get contents of directory: Operation not permitted). Suddenly I'm getting a lot of errors from the backup of my home directory. Apparently while making various changes, I've made a configuration change. I moved the Mac Mini from my workshop to my study and I'm moving as much as I can from my 2014 iMac to my Mini so I can start using it as my main workstation. I have two directory trees Arq is supposed to back up, one is in /Users/Shared and I'm not having problems with that. I'm using Arq 7.19.11 on an M1 Mac Mini using Ventura 13.1.įor months I've been backing up my data.
